Sutradhar is presenting its 18th workshop production, 'The Untouched', at the Telugu University Auditorium, adjacent to Public Gardens, on 22nd December at 7:30 pm.
The workshop was conducted by Vinay Varma, who also translated the play from the Marathi original 'Asparsh', written by Subhash Sonavane. 'The Untouched' is directed by Prof. Bhaskar Shewalkar, and features Aditi Sharma as the crippled and bed-ridden Julie, and Deepti Girotra as her matron nun. The music is designed by Shanti Mani and Vinay Varma. The duration of the play is 45 minutes.
Life or death, sexuality or spirituality, the body or the soul - what is the ultimate reality? Is denial of the body the only path to a higher realm of consciousness? Is succumbing to bodily needs an obstacle to spiritual progress? Is there a middle path after all? Who decides what is right and what is wrong? The play portrays these polarities in the 2 characters - Julie, a crippled young girl, and a nun, who is married to Lord Jesus. Through their dialogues, we encounter this constant battle that rages in most of us.
