The Hyderabad Film Club, in collaboration with the Hyderabad Korean Residents Association, and the Korean Consulate (Mumbai), is organizing a Korean film festival from 26th to 28th December, at the Prasad Labs Preview Theatre.
Directed by Kang Je-gyu, 'Taegukgi', a story of 2 brothers affected by the Korean War (1950-53), will be screened on 27th December, at 7pm.
After independence, Korean society was still in a chaos due to the confrontation between the left and the right. Jin Tae lives with his mother, younger brother Jin Seok and fiancé, Young Shin. After his father's demise, the family works hard to send Jin Seok to university, the only hope in their lives. With the start of the Korean War (June 25, 1950), Jin Seok is forcibly conscripted into the war, which forces Jin Tae to join the war to save his brother and send him back to his mother.
Jin Tae enlists himself in suicidal missions to earn the Medal of Honor with one goal in his mind - to protect his younger brother. During the war, the brothers tragically separate from each other, briefly reuniting towards the end - one goes to the South Korean Army, the other to the North Korean Army.
Taegukgi offers global viewers access to the country's innermost anxieties and contradictions. With Kyung-Pyo Hong's camera work and Kyeong-hie Choi's editing, the film was produced by Seong-hun Lee and written by Kang Je-gyu, and stars Jang Dong-gun and Won Bin. The music was composed by Dong-jun Lee. The film is 145 minutes long.
