SARC (South Asian Regional Conference) is here to tame the big 5 of Asia: unemployment, poverty, food scarcity, water crisis and skewed income distribution. The International Association of Agricultural Economists, the Indian Society of Agricultural Economists (ISAE) and the Acharya N G Ranga Agricultural University among others are sponsoring the conference.
The conference proposes to discuss and create a consensus about globalization and whether it has made a difference to the livelihoods of the rural poor. About 100 participants including 40 from diverse countries of Asia are expected to be present. It will also involve governmental representation at the secretarial and ministerial levels.
SARC intends to formulate a strategy of scientifically assessing the impact of the WTO initiatives on the lives of the poor, and desires active participation from independent and professional research organizations.
