Diretor Afkhami shows you the sleazier side of the green curtain.
Hyderabad Film Club is presenting an Iranian Film Festival, in collaboration with Cultural House Of The Islamic Republic Of Iran, Mumbai, and Consulate General Of The Islamic Republic Of Iran, Hyderabad.
Shokaran is the story of Mahmoud, who becomes the general manager of a factory in Zanjan, after his boss is hospitalized due to some mysterious illness. During his visits to the hospital, Mahmoud becomes involved in an emotional affair with a young nurse. Mahmoud is a married man, and the changes in his behavior alert his wife that something is not quite right.
Shokaran, with its open treatment of infidelity, paralleles 'Fatal Attraction', and has proved to be quite controversial in Iran. Inspite of the green curtain, the movie has been a box office success. Director Afkhami, however surpasses Lyne's thriller with his subtlety, complexity, and compassion. His vision of a world of moral ambiguity layered with unexpected corruption and innocence, is fresh and innovative.
In 1986, Behrooz Afkhani formally started his career in cinema as the director of photography for 'Under The Rain', and later directed a television series called 'Mirza Kuchak Of The Forest'.
