The Hyderabad Film Club, in collaboration with the Mexican Embassy in New Delhi and the Federation Of Film Societies Of India, is presenting the Mexican Film Festival from 17th to 19th July, at Sarathi Studios, Ameerpet. A total of 5 films will be screened during the 3-day festival. "Santo And Blue Demon Vs The Monsters" ("Santo Y Blue Demon Vs Los Monstruos") is the second film that will be screened on the inaugural day, at 7:30pm.
The 1969 film was directed by Gilberto Martinez Solares, and marked the 23rd screen appearance by its star, a man who entered the world as one Rodolfo Guzman Huerto (a Mexican wrestler who never took off his mask), but who achieved legendary status in the world of lucha libre as El Santo.
The plot involves the death of an evil scientist Dr. Bruno Halder, who is brought back to life by his devoted disciple Waldo (Rafael Munoz) and his small army of lime grease-painted zombies. Halder (Carlos Ancira) is evil, and bent on conquering the world. He also wants revenge against his kind brother Otto and niece Gloria (Hedy Blue).
However, to destroy them, he has to fight crimefighting wrestler El Santo (who happens to be Gloria's boyfriend) and Santo's best friend, the Blue Demon. Halder knows his army of green zombies is no match for Santo and Blue, so he brings to life a number of familiar monsters - including a werewolf, a vampire, a mummy, the Frankenstein Monster, and an amphibious one-eyed creature.
Entry is free for everyone. Please contact Bh S S Prakash Reddy, secretary of the Hyderabad Film Club, at 2373-0841/93910-20243 for further details.
