The first edition of Raminiyam, 2014, has been planned to honor and celebrate the life of Jagdish Mittal, Padma Shri.
The event has been planned in recognition of his contribution towards Indian art over the last 60 years. The three day event will showcase his life, his collection, his association with Hyderabad artists and his influence on the Hyderabad art scene.
The inaugural edition of Raminiyam being held from October 10-12 will be celebrating the life and times of Jagdish Mittal. The following events are planned:
October 10: Venue: Shrishti Art Gallery:
- Display of images from Jagdish Mittal?s collection from the Jagdish and Kamla Mittal Museum and glimpses of his life
- Three talks will be given by Laxma Goud, Shankar Melkote and Dr Radhe Shya Shukla
October 11: Venue: Shrishti Art Gallery:
- A retrospective exhibition of paintings by leading artists of Hyderabad from 1950 onwards
- Works of sixteen artists from different time periods will be mounted in this show.
- 1950-1965: P.T. Reddy, Vidya Bhushan, K. Sheshagiri Rao, K. Rajaiah and Jagdish/Kamla Mittal
- 1965-1990: Laxma Goud, Surya Prakash, T. Vaikuntam, Gouri Shankar and DLN Reddy
- 1990 onwards: A Rajeswara Rao, Fawad Tamkanat, K. Srinivasachary, Chippa Sudhakar, Laxman Aelay and Gouri Vemula
- A Purulia Chhau dance will be performed by a troupe from West Bengal.
October 12: Venue: Salarjung Museum:
- An exhibition of the Masters of Indian Art featuring artists that include M.F. Hussain, S. H. Raza, F. N. Souza, Ram Kumar, K. H. Ara, Akbar Padamsee, Krishen Khanna, Bikash Bhattacharjee, K. K. Hebbar, Jamini Roy, Ram Kinkar Baij and Prakash Karmar, will be held at the Museum.
- Talk by Nithin Bhayana on "Indian Contemporary Art as Investment"
- Release of a book on Jagdish Mittal.
