V N R Vignana Jyothi Institute of Engineering & Technology (VJIET) is organising its annual college fest, Sintillashunz 2011, from 17th to 20th February at the college's campus in Bachupally village. As part of the fest, Indian fusion band Motherjane will be performing live on the second day at 7:00pm.
The band consists of Suraj Mani (vocalist), Baiju Dharmajan (lead guitar), John Thomas (drums), Clyde Rozario (bass) and Deepu Sasidharan (rhythm guitar).
Motherjane is a Carnatic rock band from Cochin formed in 1996. The band's name originates from a variant of Mary Jane as it believes that music is by far the purest drug in existence.
Rock Street Journal has named Motherjane Artist Of The Decade in 2010. Motherjane has also been honoured with the Best Indie Rock Band in Asia at AVIMA '09. Rolling Stone, the magazine, named their album "Maktub" as Album Of The Year 2009.
Motherjane has had its music played on American, Asian and Mexican radio stations. The band's fans are referred to as Janiacs.
