Sri Chandrasekharendra Sangeeta Educational Society is presenting its 12th Annual Cultural Festival and the 144th Aradhana of Satguru Thyagaraja from 16th to 20th February at Keyes Girls High School.
The 5-day cultural festival will feature upcoming artistes from music colleges all over the city as well as senior artistes such as O S Arun, Sanjay Subramaniam, Priya Sisters, Malladi Brothers and S Srinivasan.
Sanjay Subramaniam from Chennai will be performing a Carnatic vocal concert on the 2nd day at 6:30pm.
Sanjay Subramaniam's introduction to Carnatic music started at the young age of 7 with the violin. He started training under V Lakshminarayana until his manual dexterity was impaired by an accident. He took to singing and received his initial training from his grand-aunt, Rukmini Rajagopalan. The training under Calcutta K S Krishnamurthy led to innovation, and a blending of tradition and modernity further sharpened his skills. Sanjay is a graduate in commerce, and a qualified Chartered and Cost Accountant.
Sanjay has performed at Chennai, Mumbai, Calcutta, Bangalore, Delhi and other places all over India. He has also toured Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Australia, USA, Canada, UK and Oman. He is an A-grade artiste of the All-India Radio, Madras, and is a regular performer on Doordarshan and Sun TV.
Sri Chandrasekharendra Sangeeta Educational Society was founded in 2000 to impart and spread Carnatic vocal music to music lovers of all ages. It was established by S Chandrasekhar, a renowned vocalist, who has a diploma in Carnatic vocal music. He teaches about 50 students, both young and old. The society also organises various music concerts of local, upcoming and established artistes, and renowned classical musicians from Chennai.
