An aged loner sitting up all night, drinking, and thinking about his past. Indeed, Hitler's deeds are more immortal than we give them credit for!
Sifar Theatre Group is organising a Theatre Festival from 24th to 26th December, at La Makaan. A total of 4 plays will be staged during the 3-day festival. Round & Round & Round, a monologue in Hindi, will presented on the 2nd day, at 7:30pm. The play is based on Nirmal Verma's Dedh Inch Upar, and has been directed by Feroze.
Scripted by Junaid & Feroze and enacted by Feroze, the 60-minute Hindi play is a monologue on the atrocities committed by Adolf Hitler on the Jewish community. It revolves around an aged loner who sits late in the night at a bar, drinking, and with his mind going round and round with thoughts about his past.
The loner had lost his wife during the Emergency, when many lives were snuffed out. His wife was taken away from their house by the police for keeping anti-government leaflets and other materials at home. He has not seen her since then, and believes she is dead; the police had tortured him as well, in order to get the truth out of him regarding his wife's activities.
Sifar is a theatre group started in 2008 by theatre enthusiasts based in Hyderabad, to entertain underprivileged children by performing plays for them. The group regularly performs plays for the Children's Home For Boys, and the Observation Home For Boys.
Its first public performance was Round & Round & Round, a monologue based on Nirmal Verma's Dedh Inch Upar, in June 2009; followed by another monologue, Ripple Of Stillness, in December 2009. Manoranjan Tax Free was its 3rd production.
