Games couples play. Especially in the unlikeliest of places - an old age home - and in the unlikeliest of times - their sunset years.
As part of the annual Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Festival from 29th October to 10th November, the 6th day of the festival will feature an English comedy play "The Game", directed by Sam Kerawalla, at the Park Hyderabad Hotel.
The play has been adapted by Bachi Karkaria and produced by Raell Padamsee.
This Alyquee Padamsee and Sabira Merchant starrer is about an old Parsi couple who are worlds apart but thrown together by fate and chance. The play is a bittersweet comedy about the game of life.
On the back porch of a nursing home, they're forced to get along and pass the time with increasingly competitive games of rummy. The games are a metaphor for the games they've played through their lives. Their frustrations, failures and angst-filled regrets are slowly exposed as the play moves forward.
The festival is a tribute to the Hindustani theatre personality, the late Qadir Ali Baig. It forms a part of the Foundation's initiative to revive theatre in town, and was designed by Mohammad Ali Baig, son of Qadir Ali Baig.
Entry is by tickets of Rs. 1,000, Rs. 500 & Rs. 100 per head for each play, available at A A Hussain (Abids), Music World (Rd. 1 B'Hills), Walden (Begumpet), Ofen (Rd. 10 B'Hills), Sangeet Sagar (Paradise Circle), Shoe World (Pathargatti). Please contact theatrefoundation[at]cineworksindia[dot]com.
