As part of the annual Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Festival from 29th October to 8th November, a Marathi Contemporary Family Drama "Katkon Trikon" by Aseem Entertainment Production from Pune, will be staged on the 1st of November, at the Taramati Baradari outdoor auditorium.
The play is directed by Girish Joshi and has Sandesh Kulkarni, Ketaki Thatte and Dr. Mohan Agashe in the cast.
Veteran Dr. Mohan Agashe plays two roles in this witty play about the generation gap in educated Indian families. The play documents the happenings in the life of a small family comprising Aaba, the retired father; Rahul, the son who is a lawyer; and Bhakti, the daughter-in-law, a Maths professor.
There are problems between the Aaba and Bhakti, and the latter explains the problem of this triangular structure of the family, in a logical mathematical manner, to Rahul, with the help of various angles and triangles. She convinces him how she is right, and draws the future unavoidable roadmap of separation.
The play takes a sudden turn because of an unexpected event in the house. The Police Inspector who comes in to investigate the unexpected event says he hates the law and the entire legal & judicial system, but performs his duty as a police officer diligently. He goes about his job to find out exactly what had happened in a cynical and humorous, but sometimes threatening, way.
Having collected adequate data, he examines all the possibilities, and proves his conclusions with perfect logic. While going about his duty in this unusual way, he throws light on the life of a lonely old man and the perceptual differences between two generations.
The festival is a tribute to the Hindustani theatre personality, the late Qadir Ali Baig. It forms a part of the Foundation's initiative to revive theatre in town, and was designed by Mohammad Ali Baig, son of Qadir Ali Baig.
Entry is by tickets of Rs. 1,000, Rs. 500 & Rs. 100 per head for each play, available at A A Hussain (Abids), Music World (Rd. 1 B'Hills), Walden (Begumpet), Ofen (Rd. 10 B'Hills), Sangeet Sagar (Paradise Circle), Shoe World (Pathargatti). Please contact theatrefoundation[at]cineworksindia[dot]com.
