Alliance Francaise of Hyderabad and Goethe-Zentrum Hyderabad, in association with Taj Deccan, Seagram's 100 Pipers, and the Public Affairs US Consulate General Hyderabad, is presenting World Music Day 2010 on 19th June, at Taj Deccan. The one-day event will feature several music programs, starting from 5pm till 10:30pm.
Sam Smala, a band from France which creates a fusion between jazz, gypsy jazz and world music, will perform at 8pm. The members of this 5-piece band are Samuel Strouk on the guitar, Quentin Braine on the drums, Guillaume Marin on the bass, Mathias Levy on the violin & guitar, and Serena Fisseau with the vocals.
"Smala" is a word originating in North Africa, and means "Family". The band members played together for 10 years before "Sam Smala" was actually created.
The artistes have studied in some prestigious music schools in the world, including at the Conservatory Of Paris and the New York?s Drummers collective. They are currently working on the band's first album, which will be released at the end of 2010.
