Sharada Cultural Trust is organising its 20th Annual Cultural Festival Of Music & The 163rd Aradhana Of Sadguru Sri Thyagaraja Swamy, from 30th January to 7th February, at Keyes High School. The 9-day festival will feature several renowned Carnatic musicians from all the country - O S Thyagarajan, Dr. Ganesh, Sudha Raghunathan, Sanjay Subrahmanyam, Lalgudi GJR Krishnan & Vijayalakshmi, Nityasree Mahadevan, the Hyderabad Sisters and T V Sankaranarayanan - providing a musical fiesta for the Carnatic music lovers of the twin cities
Chennai-based popular vocalist Nityasree Mahadevan will be performing on the 4th of February, and accompanying her are M A Krishnaswamy on the violin, Mannarkoil J Balaji on the mridangam and P V Ramana Murthy on the ghatam.
Nityasree is the granddaughter of the legendary late D K Pattammal and mridangam maestro Palghat Mani Iyer. She initially trained under her mother Lalitha Sivakumar, and later on with D K Pattammal. She has been performing since 1987, and is currently an A-grade artiste of AIR. She has received many awards, notably Yuva Kala Bharathi, Sangeetha Sikhamani, Ugadi Puraskar, Nadabhushanam and Kalaimamani.
Nityasree has performed at all major sabhas in India, and also toured USA, UK, France, Germany, Australia, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia, Geneva, Dubai, Doha and Abu Dhabi for concerts. She has rendered her voice to various movies and TV serials, apart from more than 100 CDs and cassettes.
The Sharada Cultural Trust is an all-women voluntary organisation that has been rendering yeomen service for the last 19 years in the field of cultural activities. The programs conducted by the organisation include the annual music festival and Thyagaraja Aradhana, annual music competitions, donation of rice to veda pathashalas, and donating money to the Sri Vidya School For Special Children and the Devnar School For The Blind.
