Carnatic Vocal By Dr. R Ganesh: Events in Hyderabad

REVIEW FOR CARNATIC VOCAL BY DR....

Sharada Cultural Trust is organising its 20th Annual Cultural Festival Of Music & The 163rd Aradhana Of Sadguru Sri Thyagaraja Swamy, from 30th January to 7th February, at Keyes High School. The 9-day festival will feature several renowned Carnatic musicians from all over the country - O S Thyagarajan, Dr. Ganesh, Sudha Raghunathan, Sanjay Subrahmanyam, Lalgudi GJR Krishnan & Vijayalakshmi, Nityasree Mahadevan, the Hyderabad Sisters and T V Sankaranarayanan - providing a musical fiesta for the Carnatic music lovers of the twin cities.

Dr. Ganesh will be performing on the 2nd day of the fest, and accompanying him are Madurai S Balasubramanian on the violin, Madipakkam Suresh on the mridangam and A Gopalakrishnan on the kanjeera.

Dr. R Ganesh was born in 1968, and belongs to the lineage of composers Kavikunjara Bharathi and Koteeswara Iyer. He started his training in vocal Carnatic music at the age of 10 from P Mahalinga Iyer at Thanjavur, and later, from Vidwan Thirukkarugavoor G Srinivasaraghavan. He had his advanced training through the traditional Gurukulavasa system from Padmasri Sangeeta Kalanidhi Maharajapuram Santhanam, for 6 years. Currently, he is continuing his training under O S Thiagarajan. He also learnt to play the veena from Vainika Vidwamsini Ranganayaki Rajagopalan of the Karaikudi Sambasiva Iyer School for a few years.

Ganesh is a recipient of several awards and titles, including the Maharajapuram Memorial Prize in 1993, G R Chari Memorial Prize, the Sangeeta Chinthamani title, the Yuva Kala Bharathi title, Sri Nataraja Iyer Memorial Award, Best Young Male Vocalist award by the Music Academy, the Best Vocalist award in Sub-Senior Category by the Indian Fine Arts Society, the Gnana Sangeeta Mani title by Guhashri Swamigal Satsangam, and the Youth Excellence Award by Maharajapuram Viswanatha Iyer Trust.

Ganesh has performed in South Africa, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore and Dubai. He is a Registered Veterinary Practitioner, and is currently a Chief Manager in Viswapriya Group, Chennai.

The Sharada Cultural Trust is an all-women voluntary organisation that has working for the last 19 years in the field of cultural activities. The programs conducted by the organisation include the annual music festival and Thyagaraja Aradhana, annual music competitions, donation of rice to veda pathashalas, and donating money to the Sri Vidya School For Special Children and the Devnar School For The Blind.
