Alliance Francaise, together with the Hyderabad Film Club and with the support from the Culture France and The French Embassy, is organising the French Film Festival to mark 50 years of new wave cinema and as part of Bonjour India - A Festival Of France. The film festival is on from 14th to 17th January, at Prasads IMAX. A total of 8 world-class films will be screened at the festival.
Lift To The Scaffold, Directed by Louis Malle, is the first film on the 2nd day of the festival. Malle's debut feature Lift To The Scaffold (Ascenseur Pour L'echafaud ), made when he was only 25, is a thriller starring Jeanne Moreau as Florence and Julian Tavernier as Maurice.
Florence and Maurice are a pair of lovers who conspire to murder Florence's husband in an ingenious manner. However, not everything goes quite as planned.
Lift to the Scaffold is seen as the first film of the French New Wave, with its camerawork by cinematographer Henri Decae, who also shot the debut films of Truffaut and Chabrol. With its sultry black and white palate, Paris locations and improvised jazz score by the legendary Miles Davis, Lift to the Scaffold is a said to be a slice of 50s French cool.
Free passes are available one hour before the show at the venue, and 2 passes will be issued per person on a first-come-first-served basis. Please contact Alliance Francaise at 2770-0734 or Bh S S Prakash Reddy of the Hyderabad Film Club at 2373-0841/93910-20243 for further details.
