Pierrot Le Fou - French Film By Jean-Luc Godard

Alliance Francaise, together with the Hyderabad Film Club, and with the support of the Culture France and The French Embassy, is organising a French Film Festival to mark 50 years of new wave cinema and as part of Bonjour India - Festival of France. The festival is being held from 14th to 17th January, at Prasads IMAX. A total of 8 world-class films will be screened at the 4-day festival.



Pierrot Le Fou, a 1965 film directed by Jean-Luc Godard, and starring Anna Karina and Jean-Paul Belmondo, is the inaugural film of the festival. The film is based on "Obsession", a novel by Lionel White. It was Jean-Luc Godard's 10th feature movie. The title translates to "Pete The Madman", but the film is usually released under its French title internationally.



It is the story of Ferdinand (Jean-Paul Belmondo) and Marianne (Karina), who meet when Ferdinand's wife hires Marianne as a baby-sitter. As he drives Marianne home, Ferdinand decides to run away with her. The couple get caught up in a mysterious gun-running scheme involving Marianne's brother (Dirk Sanders). The film features Godard's most extended use of color to that point, as the shots are filled with blocks of bright primary colors. Pierrot Le Fou is a catalogue of cinematic inventions and of gestures made by couples in love.
