The Krishnakriti Foundation, as part of its annual art and cultural festival, in association with the Alliance Francaise of Hyderabad and the French Embassy In India, is presenting a Koodiyattam performance by Margi Madhu & troupe. The performance will take place at the amphitheatre of Shilparamam, on 8th January.
Koodiyattam or Kutiyattam is an amalgam of the classical Sanskrit theatre of ancient India and the regional theatre of Kerala. It is believed to be 2,000 years old, and is officially recognised by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of the Oral And Intangible Heritage Of Humanity. Kutiyattam performances were confined to the temple precincts of Kerala, in specially constructed theatres called Kutampalams.
Margi Madhu is a Koodiyattam maestro, and is one of the first artistes to be trained at the Margi Foundation based in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. He learnt Koodiyattam at Margi under Padmashree Ammannur Madhava Chakiar and Moozhikulam Kochukuttan Chakkiar. He has performed at many national and international venues, including the prestigious Kennedy Center at Washington DC, USA (June 1977), for the International jury of UNESCO, and the
