Perfect harmony Productions and Cisne For Arts are organizing Paigam-E-Mohabbat, a Sufi music evening featuring Abida Parveen and Muzaffar Ali, in Chowmahalla Palace on 31st October, 7.30 pm onwards.
Abida Parveen is a singer of Sindhi descent, and one of the foremost exponents of Sufi music (Sufiana Kalaam). She sings mainly ghazals and Urdu love songs. Her forte is Kafis, a solo genre accompanied by percussion and harmonium using a repertoire of songs by Sufi poets. Parveen sings in Urdu, Sindhi, Seraiki, Punjabi and Persian. Along with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, she is considered one of the finest Sufi vocalists of the modern era.
Muzaffar Ali is a film-maker (his most acclaimed movie being Umrao Jaan), a fashion designer, a poet, an artist, a music-lover, a revivalist and a social worker. In 2005, he was awarded the Padma Sri for his achievements. He conceived and directed Jahan E Khusrau - 2010, the 8th World Sufi Music Festival, in association with the Government of Delhi and ICCR. In 2000, he released his album "Paigham-E-Mohabbat", in which he set to tune verses of Urdu poets who had expressed the trauma of the partition of India through their poems.
