The Hindu is organising the 6th edition of The Hindu Metro Plus Theatre Fest from 15th to 18th December at the Ravindra Bharathi auditorium. A total of 4 plays will be staged everyday at 7:30 pm during the 4-day festival. As part of this fest, One On One will be staged on the last day. The star cast includes Bugs Bhargava Krishna, Neil Bhoopalam, Rajit Kapur, Imran Adil, Preetika Chawla, Anand Tiwari, Shernaz Patel and Amit Mistry.
One on One is a theatrical collaboration of Shernaz Patel, Rajit Kapur and Rahul da Cunha, collectively known as Rage. In this unusual theatrical event, several of Mumbai's leading playwrights have written short 10 to 15 minute monologues, or in some cases, dialogues.
The theme for the evening is "India Today", wherein each writer is addressing an issue/subject/theme about our country, both hilarious and tragic. The themes include the legalisation of homosexuality, the state of the Indian bureaucracy, the farce of Ajmal Kasab's trial, the absurd popularity of Big Boss, the obsession with skin fairness, the decline of Mumbai city, and such other issues.
The play is in English and Hindi. The monologues are written by Anuvab Pal, Ashok Mishra, Farhad Sorabjee, Oliver Beale, Purva Naresh and Rahul Da Cunha, and is directed by Akarsh Khurana, Arghya Lahiri, Kunaal Roy Kapoor, Nadir Khan, Rahul da Cunha and Rajit Kapur. It is being staged by The Rage Productions from Mumbai, and is of 100 minutes in duration.
Started in 2005, The Hindu Metro Plus Theatre Fest is one of the most eagerly awaited theatre events every year. It starts in Chennai and moves to other south-Indian cities. This year, it kickstarted in Chennai on 8th August with 8 plays staged over 7 days, and was carried over in Hyderabad, Bangalore and Coimbatore.
Entry is by daily passes of Rs. 500, Rs. 300 and Rs. 200. Student passes cost Rs. 100 per head, but entry is permitted only on production of college ID cards.
