Hyderabad Western Music Foundation is conducting a music course on community singing.
The Foundation is starting a community singing project with bi-monthly sessions, from January. It is expected that participants have a basic interest in learning songs from all over the world in different languages and historical contexts. The minimum age for participation is 12 years.
The songs come from a variety of sources - sea shanties from sailors, folk songs from folk poets of India, simplified classical songs / poems, folk poems from around the world, round songs, to name a few.
So if you are fond of singing just for the sheer joy of it, this is the place to be. The first session will contain the famous "Banana Boat Song" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9L9angh4KdQ).
Tejaswinee Kelkar, the course director, is pursuing her MS at IIIT in Hyderabad. She has studied Western classical as well as Hindustani classical music, and is locally part of the choir group, the Deccan Voices.
