The advent of plastic toys and Barbie dolls leaves no buyers for Kanai's clay toys and his business is totally wiped out. Kanai's 10-year-old son Chand is highly attracted towards his father's beautiful creations but poverty compels him to go to Kolkata and work as a domestic servant. Chand makes toys out of dough, for there is not much clay. His old friend Devrup helps Chand to present his clay owl at the Kolkata Arts Academy competition. But a jealous friend of Devrup breaks the toy owl just before the competition. Chand is in tears but another idea strikes him. He makes a toy out of some dough, heats it in the microwave and presents it for the competition. Chand's work is judged as the best for its beauty and innovative technique.
