Seagram's 100 Pipers, in association with the Hyderabad International Cenvention Centre, is presenting Melange - A Music Concert Without Boundaries, featuring Kevin Hays (pianist), Tim Ries (saxophonist), Karsh Kale (percussionist), Katayoun Goudarzi (vocalist), Shujat Khan (sitarist), Karl Peters (bassist) & Yogesh Samsi (tabla Player), on 25th January, at the HICC, Novotel Hyderabad.
A unique project bringing together an ensemble of some fine musicians from world music, the concert is part of a 5-city tour starting with Hyderabad on 25th January, followed by Bangalore on 26th, Mumbai on 28th, Kolkata on 29th and Delhi on the 31st of January. All the musicians are playing for the first time in town.
A versatile saxophonist and composer, Tim Ries has collaborated with such diverse talents as Paul Simon, Sheryl Crow, Lyle Lovett, Stevie Wonder, Incognito and David Lee Roth. Jazz pianist and composer Kevin Hays has now recorded nearly a dozen CDs as a leader, including 3 critically-acclaimed recordings for Blue Note Records.
Producer, composer, tabla player, DJ, drummer, singer/song writer, remix artist and more, Karsh Kale is a prolific artiste and has collaborated with many well-known artistes, including Bill Laswell, Ustad Zakir Hussain, Trilok Gurtu and Talvin Singh, among others.
Katayoun Goudarzi started reading and writing poetry at the age of 7 in her native Tehran. Her distinctive melodic style of recitation blends an emotive rendition of the poetry with meticulous attention to the linguistic and lyrical integrity of the piece. Katayoun has also collaborated and recorded with Tim Ries & Kevin Hays of the Rolling Stones, and percussionist and arranger, Satoshi Takeishi.
Grammy-nominated Ustad Shujaat Khan is a north-Indian classical musician who has performed at all prestigious music festivals in India and has travelled around the world performing in Asia, Africa, North America and Europe.
Karl Peters is an Indian bassist, whose knowledge of Western jazz harmonies and his grasp of Indian modes and melodic concept make him an invaluable force in Indian and international music groups.
Yogesh Samsi is a tabla player whose reputation has been built on his artistry in both fields of accompaniment and solo playing. Yogesh has accompanied several top-ranking instrumentalists and vocalists and dancers of India, including Ustad Vilayat Khan, Pt Dinkar Kaikini, Pt Bhimsen Joshi, Pt Shivkumar Sharma, Pt Hariprasad Chaurasia, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and Pt Birju Maharaj.
