Taxes are not funny. Neither is being blind. Combining two un-funny issues is this 1993 comedy. Tax-free, of course.
Sifar Theatre Group is organising a theatre festival from 24th to 26th December, at La Makaan. A total of 4 plays will be staged during the 3-day festival. Manoranjan Tax Free, an English/Hindi comedy play, will be staged on the inaugural day at 7:30pm. The play is directed by Junaid, and the cast includes Radheshyam, Krishna, Amit and Feroze.
'Manoranjan Tax Free' is an English play, translated from the Marathi original, which was written in 1993 by Chandrashekhar Phansalkar. The play fuses entertainment with touches of humour at the expense of new members of a blind men's club that shows a world of 'tax-free entertainment'. It talks about a group of blind men trying to overcome their physical disability with an open-minded perspective towards life, and also about their fervent efforts to entertain themselves. Manoranjan Tax Free is a one-act play, and an hour and 10 minutes long.
Sifar is a theatre group started in 2008 by theatre enthusiasts based in Hyderabad, to entertain underprivileged children by performing plays for them. The group regularly performs plays for the Children's Home For Boys, and the Observation Home For Boys.
Its first public performance was Round & Round & Round, a monologue based on Nirmal Verma's Dedh Inch Upar, in June 2009; followed by one more monologue, Ripple Of Stillness, in December 2009. Manoranjan Tax Free is its 3rd production.
