A team of musicians has decided to go dutch and present to you some jazz together. Incidentally, they're all Dutch.
Enjoy the weekend with a live jazz performance by Ronald Douglas and The Dutch Jazz Quartet at Landmark, on 31st October. The concert will begin at 6:30pm. The band will also perform in Landmark stores in Gurgaon, Mumbai and Pune.
The band consists of Dutch jazz musicians Ronald Douglas, Jasper, Hans Mantel, Gijs Dijkhuizen and Sjoerd Dijkhuizen. Music buffs will be exposed to an eclectic range selections from the Great American Songbook, with arrangements that are wrapped around Ronald Douglas' voice.
Ronald Douglas is a jazz vocalist who has performed at some prestigious festivals. Douglas developed a passion for music from his early years. He was born into a music-loving family - his parents had an extensive record collection mostly from the famous Great American Songbook, and from jazz.
A singing education at the Conservatory of Hilversum, under the American jazz singer Deborah Brown, led to Douglas' Jazz career. Ronald Douglas already had a nomination in his pocket for the Pall Mall Swing Award (1988). During his conservatory years, he performed with growing success, with the Timeless Orchestra in his homeland as well as in foreign countries. He won the first prize at an international competition for jazz vocalists in Poland in 1990.
In 1994, the first CD of the Ronald Douglas trio appeared. Titled Pieces Of Dreams, it featured Rob van Bavel (piano), Henk Haverhoek (contrabass) and Hans van Oosterhout (drums).
The other musicians performing this evening are Jasper, Hans Mantel, Gijs Dijkhuizen and Sjoerd Dijkhuizen. Jasper is a jazz pianist who has performed with the Metropole Orchestra. Hans Mantel is a double bassist, who is active in all styles of jazz. He currently produces CDs with Dutch jazz recording from the RNI archives. Gijs Dijkhuizen is a jazz drummer, and Sjoerd Dijkhuizen is one of Holland's most celebrated young tenor sax soloists.
