He has been honored with countless awards, and with the title of being the Asthana Vidwan of several Peethams and Devasthanams. His concerts at SPIC-MACAY's latest cultural fest, then, are an honour for Hyderabad, repeated again and again.
The Hyderabad Chapter of SPIC MACAY (Society for Promotion of Indian Music And Culture Amongst Youth) is organising a festival of Indian classical music and dance, "Virasat 2010", from 7th to 17th August, at various venues in the city.
The 11-day festival will feature the following stalwarts - Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia, Pt. Vijay Ghate, Ustad Abdul Rashid Khan, Kavita Dwibedi, T V Sankaranarayanan, Mysore Brothers, Pt. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Prof. Uday Bhawalkar, Dr. Teejan Bai, Dr. Nookala Chinasatyanarayana and D Balakrishna.
Senior Carnatic vocalist Dr. Nookala Chinna Satyanarayana will be performing on 9th August, 5:30pm, at the DST Auditorium, University of Hyderabad.
Nookala started as a violin student under Kambhampati Akkaji Rao, who led him to Mangalampally Pattabhiramayya at Vijayawada, under whose guidance he trained for 3 years. He then made his way to Vizianagaram, to learn under the violinist Prof. Dwaram Venkataswamy Naidu. Nookala accompanied Prof. Naidu on his concerts all over India. Prof. Naidu later introduced Nookala to Dr. Sripada Pinakapani.
He has worked as a professor and principal at many music colleges, in Vizianagaram, Hyderabad, Vijaywada and Tirupati. He has also won several awards, some of them being Annamacharya Vidwanmani (Sri Annamacharya Project of North America, Chicago), Nada Nidhi, Nada Hridayagna, Nada Sudharnava, Sangeeta Sarvabuama, Sangeeta Ksheera Sagara, Lakshya Lakshana Marthanda, Sangeeta Sudhakara, Emipatus Fellowship from Govt. of India, President's Sangeeta Nataka Academy Award and Senior Fellowship of Deparment of Culture, Govt. of India.
Nookala has had the honor of being the Asthana Vidwan of Sri Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (Tirupati amd Pittsburg), Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham of Kanchi, Sringeri Sankara Peetham of Sringeri, Pushpagiri Peetham of Pushpagiri, and Ganapati Sachidananda Ashram of Mysore.
He is a top-ranking performer on AIR and Doordarshan. He has travelled throughout the world, covering the USA, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Malaysia, Singapore and Mauritius. He has given performances, lectures and demonstrations, and has conducted workshops in universities that include Cambridge and Oxford, and in places like Edinburgh, London and Wakefield in the UK, and Wesllien, Wisconsin, Colomba and Colorado in the USA.
SPIC MACAY is a voluntary, non-profit, apolitical and non-governmental student participatory movement founded in 1977. It aims to conserve and promote an awareness of Indian culture among the youth of India, through a focus on the classical arts.
SPIC-MACAY has chapters in over 300 towns and cities all over the world. It organizes concerts, lectures, demonstrations, informal discussions and seminars, all hosted by local chapters of the organization. The Hyderabad Chapter is one of them.
