Some consider this game way cooler than the mint with the hole. For them, then, missing Hyderabad's most prestigious polo event is not an option.
The Hyderabad Polo Season will be held this year from 9th to 24th September, at the Bison Polo Grounds, Secunderabad. This prestigious event is being presented by Andhra Pradesh Tourism, and is being organised by Bison Riding & Polo Institute and the Indian Polo Association.
There will be 4 major events, namely, the 4-goal Army Cadre's Trophy, the 6-goal Prince of Berar Cup, the 8-goal A P Tourism Cup and the Bison Trophy Exhibition Match Cup, at stake.
8 teams - the Indian Navy, Presidents Body Guards, Regiment of Army, Army Service Corps, Remount and Veterinary Corps, National Defence Academy and 2 teams from Hyderabad Riding and Polo Club - are in the fray, battling out for those glittering trophies. Indian National Captain Samir Suhag, the Godara Brothers (Manupal and Dhruvpal) will be players of repute, playing for any of the 2 Hyderabad teams.
The schedule of the tournament is as below:
9th-11th September - League matches for the Prince Of Berar Cup
12th September - Finals of the Prince Of Berar Cup
13th-14th September - League matches for the Bison Cup
15th September - Finals of the Bison Cup
16th-18th September - League matches for Army Cadre's Trophy
19th September - Finals of Army Cadre's Trophy
20th-23rd September - League matches for the AP Tourism Cup
24th September - Finals of the AP Tourism Cup
This year, the total prize money is Rs. 2.4 lakhs. Matches will be played from 2:30pm to 6:00pm on all days.
Various events are also being planned alongside the polo matches, including Hong Gliding (Powered Harness), Para Motor Display, Military Band Display, Martial Arts Display, Army Dog Show and a cultural program by NCC cadets and AP Tourism Troupe.
Dignataries who are expected to grace the matches include Chief Minister K Rosaiah, Minister of Sports & Youth Affairs Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Tourism Minister Dr. J Geeta Reddy, and several army commanders.
