10 years ago, as the country of Rwanda descended into madness, one man made a promise to protect his family - and ended up finding the courage to save over 1,200 people. Paul Rusesabagina, a hotel manager in Rwanda, secretly used his position and intelligence to shelter over a thousand refugees during the genocide crisis. While the rest of the world closed its eyes, Paul opened his heart to prove that the human spirit can make us stronger than we'd ever imagine.
Based on a true event, Hotel Rwanda has great performances by Don Cheadle and Sophie Okenedo to watch out for. Directed by Terry George, it won 12 international awards, including the People's Choice Award at the Toronto Film Festival and the AFI Fest, and was nominated for another 25, including 3 Academy Awards.
