This Sunday, heritage lovers can walk down the pages of history in the City of Nizams, as the tourism department revives the one-and-a-half hour walk from Charminar to Chowmahalla Palace. The tickets cost Rs. 50 and include breakfast, which will be served in the palace.

The Heritage Walk, an initiative of the state tourism department, will become a part of the city's culture. Designed to give people a feel of the Nizam era, this 90-minute heritage walk will start at Charminar at 7am, and will go through Laad Bazaar and Amir-e-Paigah, to ultimately reach Chowmahalla Palace.

People are often at a loss when it comes to knowing their own city. This walk will educate people about the rich culture that Hyderabad has and also educate them with some unknown facts about these architectural wonders. Throughout the walk, a representative from the tourism department will explain the history of all the important lanes and buildings that fall on the way.

Please contact the Department of Tourism at 2326-2151 for registrations and further details.

For those interested in 'knowing' their city, this is a must-do! Even die hard Hyderabadis do not know some of the facts revealed on the tour by the so well informed lady guide. and one gets to peep into the grandeur and grace that are history now! of course, brace for the full-on view of disgraceful condition of our heritage sites, dilapilated and disintegrating, replete with peeling plasters, about to collapse parapets, domesticated animals and their droppings, complete with grabbers demolishing structures, huge government garbage bins decorating their entranceways.... beauty, history, grandeur and romance yet enthrall. Must Do!

Pros: so much history, breakfast and a clean loo at the end of the walk!!
Cons: so much degeneration and lack of maintenance of our heritage

Our tour guide was very knowledgeable on all the historical places. It was an enjoyable walk through old city, especially since there were two Tourist Police that went along to stop traffic while we crossed the roads.

Pros: The breakfast at the end of the tour.
