Forrest Gump - Film Screening By The Hyderabad Film Club

Life's like a box of chocolates, he said - you never know what you're gonna get. Well, you know what you're gonna get this 17th - Tom Hanks undiluted. The Hyderabad Film Club is screening the 1994 hit, Forrest Gump, at Sarathi Studio on 17th November. The movie will begin at 6:30pm.



Directed by Robert Zemeckis, the movie is 141 minutes long. The cast includes the versatile Tom Hanks, Robin Wright Penn, Gary Sinise, Mykelti Williamson and Sally Field.



Forrest Gump is an American comedy-drama based on the 1986 novel of the same name by Winston Groom. The film tells the story of Forrest Gump's journey through life, as he meets historical figures and influences popular culture. He experiences first-hand historic events of the late 20th century, while being largely unaware of their significance, owing to his somewhat below average intelligence. Ever since its release, varying interpretations have been made of the film's protagonist and its political symbolism. An extensive soundtrack was featured in the film, and its commercial release made it one of the top selling albums of all time.



Forrest (Tom Hanks) is a simpleton who struggles through childhood with his best and only friend Jenny. His 'mama' teaches him the ways of life, and leaves him to choose his destiny. Forrest joins the army for service in Vietnam, finding new friends Dan and Bubba. He wins medals, starts a table tennis craze, creates a famous shrimp fishing fleet, and inspires people to jog, create the smiley, write bumper stickers and songs, and donating to others; and meets the President several times. However, this is all irrelevant to Forrest, who can only think of his childhood sweetheart Jenny, who has messed up her life.



Released in the United States on July 6, 1994, Forrest Gump was well received by critics, and became a commercial success as the top grossing film in North America that year. The film ended up earning over $677 million worldwide during its theatre run. It garnered multiple awards and nominations, including Academy Awards, Golden Globe Awards, People's Choice Awards, and Young Artist Awards.
