World renowned musicians violinist Holger Jetter, drummer Sangoma Everett and bassist Mishko M'Ba, in a group known as Flying Cats, have been on an Indian tour since February 2010. They will be performing together on 23rd July, at Taj Deccan.
Holger Jetter studied Western classical music at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, Austria. He was a co-founder of the Modern String Quartet, and has played at about 1,000 jazz concerts. He has accompanied Joan Baez, Mercedes Sosa and Konstantin Wecker, and recorded and performed with jazz musicians of the likes of Charlie Mariano. He is mostly based in Puducherry, and has played with groups in Hyderabad.
Sangoma Everett started playing drums at the age of 12. After initial successes on his home turf (Virginia, USA), he decided to leave for New York. There, he teamed with bassist and composer Bill Lee, and played with The Clifford Jordan Quartet for 3 years. He then started playing with other musicians of the likes of Barry Harris, Chris Anderson, Murial Winston and Joe Newman. After a stay in Northern Ireland in 1979 with Joe Newman, he settled in Paris. There played regular gigs with Jimmy Forest, Al Grey, Jimmy Smith, Mal Waldron, Horace Parlan, Jimmy Woode, Kirk Lightsey and La Velle.
Bassist and composer Mishko M'Ba studied Western classical music at Toulouse, and focused later on jazz and rock. He has performed with Ray Charles, Charles Aznavour and Didier Lockwood. M'Ba is a permanent member of the Reunion (a French island in the Indian Ocean) band Zishkakan and the Paris ensemble Elexir with Raoul de Souza. He shuttles residences between Reunion and Puducherry.
