South Indina Cultural Association (SICA) is organising a Carnatic flute recital by Jayaprada Ramamurthy on 21st December, at Ravindra Bharathi at 6:30pm. She will be accompanied by B S Narayanan on the violin, M L N Raju on the mridangam and Haribabu on the ghatam.
Jayaprada Ramamurthy is a renowned classical flutist hailing from Hyderabad. She is the daughter of the well-known guru Prema Ramamurthy and O V Ramamurthy (BARC-NFC).
A self-taught flutist and self-made musician, Jayaprada received advanced musical guidance from her mother, and from veterans including Dr. N Ramani, B R C Iyenger & Sudarsanacharya. She was inspired to take up playing the base flute by Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia, during her occasional interactions with Panditji in Bangladesh and India.
She has toured the world over, performed in front of many dignitaries, including the President Of India, and is, quite naturally, the recipient of many prestigious awards, some of them being for the Best Performer at the Spirit Of Youth festival, Chennai; the T R Mahalingam Flute Endowment Award, Chennai; and the Best Girl Flautist award in Hyderabad.
