On the occasion of the 32nd Annual Sri Thyagaraja Aradhana Music Festival from 15th to 21st January, Vignana Samithi is organising a Carnatic flute recital by Jayaprada Ramamurthy, on 17th January, at the Anandnagar Community Hall. She will be accompanied by Kokkonda Subrahmanya Sarma on the violin, Kuchibotla Sai Giridhar on the mridangam and Saraswatula Hanumantha Rao on the ghatam.
Jayaprada Ramamurthy is the daughter of the well-known guru, Prema Ramamurthy. She has received guidance from N S Srinivasan and from Dr. N Ramani. She is the co-founder of the Uttaraa Centre For Performing Arts, along with danseuse Geetha Ganesan. She was the first female flautist to play the 'Base Flute' (Long Flute) and the 'Western Key Flute' using shifts in octaves.
She has toured the world over, performed in front of many dignitaries, including the President Of India, and is, quite naturally, the recipient of many prestigious awards, some of them being for the Best Performer at the Spirit Of Youth festival, Chennai; the T R Mahalingam Flute Endowment Award, Chennai; and the Best Girl Flautist award in Hyderabad.
