On World Environment Day 2015, the U.S. Consulate General and the American Corner, Hyderabad will screen the acclaimed film Saving Pelican 895 (2011). This award-winning short film tells the story of a single bird rescued from the oily waters of the Gulf Coast following BP's Deepwater Horizon explosion in 2010. In the aftermath of this unprecedented ecological disaster, a young Brown Pelican, the 895th surviving oiled pelican in Louisiana, is delivered by wildlife biologists to a rehabilitation center where he is monitored and cared for by a dedicated staff, many of whom travel the world responding to oil spills.
Saving Pelican 895 won the Best Short Film Award at the Ashland Independent Film Festival in 2011 and an Emmy Award for Outstanding Achievement in Music and Sound in 2012.
Saving Pelican 895 shows how conservationists, government agencies, and wildlife activists can partner to preserve wildlife.
