And this is as apt a time as any to be wondering about what digital paintings are - when else will you wonder about it?
To celebrate Valentine's Day, Kalakriti Art Gallery is organising an exhibition of digital paintings and a limited edition of Valentine cards by Sisir Sahana. The cards cost Rs. 250 each and have been colorfully done by the artist. The digital paintings numbering about 25 are also based on the Valentine theme, captured with oil and acrylic paints on canvas.
Sisir Sahana was born in 1963 in Bankura, West Bengal. He studied art at Kala Bhavan, Shantiniketan, and holds Bachelor's and Master's Fine Art Degrees in painting. Sahana also holds an Advanced Diploma in stained glass painting from Central St. Martin's College of Art & Design, London.
Sisir Sahana is an artist well-known for his glass sculpture or relief work in glass more than his other work like painting and graphic representation. He mastered this unique avenue of expression whilst on fellowship and study trips to Europe and America, when he tried his hand at stained glass and later shifted to haptic glass friezes. Sahana works with many media, but as expected finds glass the easiest and most enjoyable means to express his art. His creativity in this field is unparalleled in the country.
Recognition for this artist has come in the form of several awards, including honors like the Samakalin Chitrakala Parishad award in Assam, the Bombay Art Society award and the Hyderabad Art Society award. Although he has worked as a lecturer and art teacher in Hyderabad colleges and schools, Sahana now focuses all his energies on his art and glass-making workshops.
The exhibition is on till 16th February. Please contact the gallery at 6656-4466 for further details.
