On the occasion of World Elders Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) on June 15, the Elders Clubs International Foundation, in association with Department of Welfare of Disabled and Senior Citizens, AASRA-GHMC, Helpage India, Indian Red Cross, Lions Clubs, Walkers Clubs, Senior Citizen Associations and Federations, Retired Employees and Pensioners Associations and Federations, Residential Associations and Federations and Age Old Homes, will be conducting a unique "Elders Mela-2018" from June 15 to 17 at the AV College, Domalguda here. On the first day, a silent demonstration will be held at 7 am on the Necklace Road with thousands of senior citizens participating and demanding that the governments announce more welfare programs for them. Speaking to mediapersons here on Friday, former justice G. Chandraiah, C.N. Gopinath Reddy, IPS, M. Krishna Reddy, Elders Mela secretary-general said those above 50 to 100 years aged persons, along with their family members and grandchildren can participate in the Elders Mela and present gifts to their grand parents. They said over 25 free medial camps will be organized on the occasion. They requested the State government to provide better facilities to the senior citizens.
