Different strokes for different folks - that's the mantra at Department Of Culture as it organises an exhibition and workshop of Tanjore paintings, allowing aspiring artists to learn, art connoisseurs to appreciate the showcase, and the rest of us to act like we do.
Tanjore is an exquisite style that found itself in India when the British reached here from China over two hundred years ago. It used to be extremely popular in Gujrat, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Punjab and Andhra Pradesh but that popularity has degenerated to a trickle confined to a few places in Tamil Nadu.
This event will display paintings by President's Award winner Pannuru Sripathy making it an affair for Thomas Crown to remember because these Tanjore paintings aren't just rare but are also etched in gold leaves.
