A shopping extravaganza for ladies is being organized by Deepshikha Mahila Club, at Imperial Gardens, from 17th July to 19th July. The timings of the exhibition are 10am to 8:30pm.
Deep Mela 2009 consists of many stalls selling garments, artifacts, herbal products and jewellery. Participants from all over the world will be displaying their products, providing you with a wide range of choice. Jewellery designers from Bangkok, Thailand and Sri Lanka, and salwar suits for ladies from Pakistan are some of the highlights of the exhibition. Embroidery designers from Cochin, Jaipur and Pune will be presenting their unique collections, and there are participants from Bombay and Indore, too.
The many stalls include rakhis, household items and much more. There are also food stalls selling snacks and chat, home-made food, and items from Maharashtrian cuisine, with women from Maharashtra displaying their cullinary talents live. There will also be a lucky draw for the guests, and a Best Stall award will be given to the, well, best stall in the exhibition.
The inauguration will be done by Savita Indira Reddy, Home Minister of Andhra Pradesh, on 17th July, at 10am. She will also be launching the brochure of the club. The proceedings of the exhibition will go to Kanya Gurukul High School, adopted by the Deepshikha Mahila Club.
The Deepshikha Mahila Club is a social welfare organization established in 1965, when five like-minded ladies, Satyabhama Jalan, Radha Khemka, Anasuya Ganeriwal, Prabha Badruka and Shanti Devi Pitti, felt the need of a forum which could collectively work for the upliftment of the weaker sections of its members. Veena Marda is the current president of the club. Their numerous activities include service to the under-privileged in fields like education, healthcare, empowerment in various skills, and social development. Today, the Deepshikha Mahila Club is a premier voluntary charitable and social organization of the twin cities, and also runs a vocational training centre which works towards the self-empowerment of women in various fields. It has a strength of about 150 members and 5 honorary members. Deep Mela is an annual event, and has gained wide recognition.
