The centrality of data to public conversations and policy has accelerated rapidly over the last decade. But is data really deepening democracy in India? Drawing on over ten years of reportage data journalist Rukmini S considers the role that data is playing and can play in India's public sphere. Data has been able to illuminate key truths about India that narratives, often shared within our own bubbles, sometimes miss. However, data in India is under increasing attack. Rukmini will reflect upon what is needed to preserve the integrity of Indian data, and the role that citizens can play in this.
