COVA, a national network of voluntary organisations working for social harmony in India and peace in South Asia, is organising an event titled "India Pakistan Culture Connect: Joint Celebrations for Union of Hearts", comprising Kathak, Bharatnatyam and Odissi dances on Indian and Pakistani poetry. The performers are the Tehrik-e-Niswan Group from Karachi, Pakistan. The program will also include plays with social themes, and panel discussions on issues of concern and for promotion of better relations between the two countries.
Performances planned in India between February 14 and 19 are:
Aaj Ke Naam - a Kathak performance based on "Intesaab" by Faiz Ahmed Faiz
Aaj Rung Hae - a Kathak performance based on Hazrat Ameer Khusrau's "Kalaam"
Palanquin Bearers - a modern Indian dance performance based on Sarojini Naidu's poetry
Aap Ki Yaad - an Odissi performance based on poetry of Makhdoom Mohiuddin
Where the Mind is Without Fear - a Bharatanatyam performance based on Tagore's poetry
Two of the following three short plays will also be staged:
Kafir - based on Ismat Chughtai's short story
Aurat - a play by Dr Rasheed Jahan
Jung Chahiye Ya Aman - A play by Koshish Theatre Group (concept and story Dr. Mazher Hussain, script and direction by Dr. Gopi Krishna)
