The South Indian Cultural Association (SICA) is organising a grand cine and semi-classical music program titled 'Raga Sahita Sahitya Sahita Swara Lahiri', by T Udayalakshmi. The concert is on 11 December at 6:30pm at the Ravindra Bharathi auditorium.
She will be performing a blend of semi-classical and film music. The audience will be treated to songs from Telugu movies (from the classics like Siva Sankari and Malleswari), Hindi movies (including Alaap, and even newer movies like Taal and Bunty Aur Bubli) and Tamil movies (some of which are Chandramukhi and Jeans). And you could expect a bit of 'Kajra re' as well.
Udayalakshmi has been trained in classical music from her childhood under her guru Poruri Lakshmi Narasimha Rao. She has done her M A in music from Potti Sriramulu Telugu University. She has given over 1,200 classical and semi-classical music performances all over India, and has participated in many programs conducted by Gemini TV, Maa TV and ETV.
She is an 'A' grade artist of All India Radio, Vijayawada, and is also the recipient of the prestigious Indira Priyadarshini and Mother Theresa awards. Currently, she heads the Udayasri Arts Academy, teaching students classical and semi-classical music.
SICA was founded in 1959 by Dewan Bahadur Aramuda Iyengar, the Finance Minister of Hyderabad's Nizam, a great patron of Carnatic music. The association has since organised more than 1,000 concerts. It has provided a platform for upcoming artistes, some of which are Mandolin Srinivas and the Malladi Brothers. It conducts workshops, felicitates artistes, and provides both moral and financial support to upcoming artistes. Dr S Chakravarthy, IAS, former Chief Secretary to the Govt. of AP, is the current President of the association. and V Ramachandran is the Treasurer.
