Sharada Cultural Trust is organising its 20th Annual Cultural Festival Of Music & The 163rd Aradhana Of Sadguru Sri Thyagaraja Swamy, from 30th January to 7th February, at Keyes High School. The 9-day festival will feature several renowned Carnatic musicians from all the country - O S Thyagarajan, Dr. Ganesh, Sudha Raghunathan, Sanjay Subrahmanyam, Lalgudi GJR Krishnan & Vijayalakshmi, Nityasree Mahadevan, the Hyderabad Sisters and T V Sankaranarayanan - providing a musical fiesta for the Carnatic music lovers of the twin cities
The Hyderabad Sisters will be performing on the 5th February, the penultimate day of the festival. Dwaram Satyanarayana Rao on the violin, D S R Murthy on the mridangam, P V Ramana Murthy on the ghatam and Shyam Kumar on the kanjira will be the accompanying musicians.
The Hyderabad Sisters, Lalitha and Haripriya, were born in 1950 and 1952 respectively, and were disciples of T G Padmanabham, belonging to the Alathur Sishya parampara. It is said that the sisters follow the style of the Alathur Brothers.
They are A-grade artists of AIR and DD, and have given innumerable classical vocal Carnatic concerts. They have featured quite a few times in national programs of music, radio sangeet sammelans and special programs of DD, and have performed extensively in all prestigious music sabhas in India and abroad.
The Spirit Of Unity concerts have presented their concerts several times. And like you may expect, the awards have just overflowed, with the prominent being the prestigious Saptagiri Sangeeta Vidhwanmani Award from TTD Tirupati, and the Raja Annamalai Award of the Madras Music Academy. The sisters have released several cassettes, too.
The Sharada Cultural Trust is an all-women voluntary organisation that has been rendering yeomen service for the last 19 years in the field of cultural activities. The programs conducted by the organisation include the annual music festival and Thyagaraja Aradhana, annual music competitions, donation of rice to veda pathashalas, and donating money to the Sri Vidya School For Special Children and the Devnar School For The Blind.
