Kalasagaram is presenting a Carnatic flute recital by Shantala Subramanyam, on 16th January, at Keyes Girls High School. Accompanying her is Ramaraju Dinakar on the violin, P S R Murthy on the mridangam and Nemani Somayajulu on the ghatam.
Shantala Subramanyam is the sister of famed flautist S Shashank. She, initially, started her lessons under Vairamangalam Lakshmi Narayanan, and thereafter, under O S Thiagarajan. She accompanied her brother both as a supporting flautist and also a tambura player. She has been performing as a solo artiste for the last 3 years, and has performed at Bangalore, Chennai, Madurai, New Delhi, Vijayawada and Hyderabad.
Kalasagaram is a south-Indian cultural association situated in East Nehru Nagar of East Marredpally, and has been organising Carnatic music concerts for more than 35 years now. The concerts are usually held in the Keyes High School campus in the open-air theatre. The singers are generally from outside Hyderabad, usually amateurs and upcoming artistes. Kalasagaram also occasionally stages south-Indian classical dances and Tamil plays.
