Witness a poetic evisceration of a much retold and revered story, in the form of a Kuchipudi dance ballet by one of the masters - Chinta Adinarayana Sarma. Sandwiched between famous gurus (Chinta Radhakrishna Murthy) and famous disciples (Hemamalini Manju), this maestro shines the brightest with his own adept moves as he keeps the legacy alive.
Bhadrachalam houses the famous Sri Sitaramachandra Swamy temple where the legend of Bhakta Ramadas was played out. Gopanna, popularly known as Ramadas because of his unfailing devotion to Lord Ram, was a tehsildar in the court of Abdul Hassan Tana Shah.
Instead of submitting all the revenues to the king, he diverted them to the embellishment of this temple, which still has some of those jewels on display. He was punished and imprisoned at our own Golconda Fort for this offense, which is when Lord Rama is said to have appeared and granted him a receipt from the King, for the revenues.
For those who didn't know Lord Rama came to Golconda too, a visit to the fort and then this ballet, is definitely a must. So rekindle your devotion and experience this divine story through the intricate abhinayas of Kuchipudi at Thyagaraja Gana Sabha tonight.
