Each year during the Sharad (autumn) season, the Department of Language & Culture hosts a grand Bathukamma festival at Ravindra Bharathi, Hyderabad. Over the nine days, women from across the city gather in traditional attire with colourful seasonal flowers to compose and sing to their Bathukammas - floral stacks symbolizing life and devotion. The event comprises live folk music, dance performances, kavi sammelans (poetry recitals), and evening communal gatherings. A specially constructed pond is often laid out within the Ravindra Bharathi premises for the ritual immersion (Saddula Bathukamma). The cultural department provides lighting, stage, sound, and coordinated programming so each day brings a unique theme or folk troupe. The festival culminates with a grand procession to Tank Bund or a ceremonial immersion site. This celebration not only keeps Telangana's floral-festival heritage alive but also fosters community bonding, especially among women and families.
