Ashok Kandimalla has been in the field of photography for more than three decades and has extensive experience in both film and digital photography. Being an electronics and computer engineer (he holds a degree in electronics from IIT Madras) by profession gives him a unique and deep insight into the digital photographic technology. He has published several critical letters and more than 70 articles (including equipment reviews) in various leading Indian photographic magazines. Some of his writings have also been published in the well-known US Magazine, Popular Photography.
Ashok is presently authoring a series of articles with the title ?Basics of Photography? in the leading magazine Smart Photography. This series commenced in January 2009 and is continuing without a break with more than 60 articles published. A compilation of these will shortly be published as an eBook.
These articles have received wide acclaim and have also been used to support curriculum for photographic courses. Some of these articles have also been translated into Telugu language for the benefit of local photographers.
Ashok has also conducted several workshops including courses for corporate customers and UNESCO. He was also an invited speaker at the annual convention of Federation of Indian Photography (FIP). He was facilitated by Lino Manfrotto, Italy, the makers of world famous tripods, for his services in educating photographers. He was also a judge for many photographic salons. He is a member on the panel of mentors for ?Tamron Challenge?, an initiative by Tamron Corp. Japan, to identify and promote photographic talent.
Ashok is also an avid collector of classic Nikon cameras having no less than 30 SLRs. His collection was also featured in a leading photographic magazine. Ashok has an excellent library of photographic books and is also interested in the history of photography. He has a passion for sharing his knowledge through teaching and writing.
Ashok is at present a consultant in the areas of Photography, Management and IT (Engineering Services). Earlier to this he served Infotech Enterprises Ltd. as the COO and later as the CTO.
