The monsoons have always been capricious, the science of meteorology notwithstanding. But some things have been unflappable over centuries, and one of these is India's concept of monsoon music.
Ragas that romance the rains have been part of our heritage, and in tune with that, Banyan Tree is presenting "Barkha Ritu: Rains & Ragas" - Pt. Shivkumar Sharma (Santoor) and Ustad Rashid Khan (vocals) in concert. They'll be accompanied by Pt. Bhavani Shankar, Vijay Ghate, Yogesh Samsi and Jyoti Goho, all stalwarts in their own right.
An event that started out in Mumbai, this one spread last year to our city, and tonight again it gets off the ground as a part of the first all-India Barkha Ritu festival at Ravindra Bharati. Be there to witness monsoon musings by the rainmakers themselves.
