Bade Bhai Sahab, a famous story by Premchand, portrays the real nature of the society in the present reality. It is about two brothers who represent diametrically opposite psychological viewpoints.
The elder brother believes in following the traditions set by society, whereas the younger one lets his own experiences guide him. The elder brother gets so caught up in the shackles of orthodoxy, that by the end of the story, he feels suffocated by them. The author uses the character to mock the education system of the time. For instance, the elder brother keeps failing his exams; because of his principles, his mind is never in the present.
The younger brother, however, takes each day as it comes, tackles current circumstances, and studies accordingly. He passes all his exams, each year. The tired elder brother finally decides to break the walls of orthodoxy and tradition, But not without the help of his younger brother. Holding his hand, the younger one inspires the elder one to chase his own dreams and ambitions.
