The Andhra Pradesh Amateur Athletic Association is conducting an athletics championship for juniors and sub-juniors, at the GMC Balayogi stadium, from the 10th July to the 12th July. The competition starts at 7am everyday.
1,000 junior athletes, aged 14, 16, 18 and 20 years, and hailing from 22 districts from Andhra Pradesh, including Kadapa and Krishna, are participating in the event. A total of 150 events will be conducted during the competition, and they include the long jump, the high jump, the discus throw, shot put, running (100m and 400m) and walking.
The best 140 athletes will be chosen, and will be given a chance to participate in the South Zone athletics championship in Kerala. 12th July is the closing ceremony, for which Dr. Ravi Shanker, the DIG of Police, is the chief guest.
The AP Amateur Athletic Association was founded in 1958, to provide a platform for athletics all over the state. Lagadapati Rajagopal, Member Of Parliament, is the chairman of the organizing committee, and K Ranga Rao is the secretary. The Association conducts many events for atheletes of all ages, every year.
