Aakruti Kathak Kendra is presenting Antarang, a Kathak dance recital dedicated to late Pt. Durga Lal, on 19th January at the Ravindra Bharathi. 10 disciples of Raghav Raj and Mangala Bhatt will perform Vandana, Tarana and other items.
Born in Mahendragarh in Rajasthan in 1948, Pt. Durga Lal was a renowned Kathak dancer who carried forward his legacy and the finest nuances of Jaipur Gharana. He was the son of Pt. Omkar Nath from whom he received his early training in dance.
Aakruti Kathak Kendra was founded by Mangala Bhatt and Raghav Raj Bhatt in 1992. The husband-wife duo dance in tandem, and have participated in numerous shows in India and abroad.
Born into a family of artists dedicated to preserving and spreading the rich traditions of India, Raghav Raj inherited dance from his illustrious father Dr. Gopal Raj Bhatt, a well-known name in folk and tribal arts in India. He was initiated into dance at the tender age of 5, and was soon drawn to Kathak. He received training from Padma Vibhushan Pandit Birju Maharaj. He was also a recipient of the national scholarships from the Government Of India and the Central Sangeet Natak Academy, New Delhi. Raghav has traveled and performed widely in India and abroad.
Entering the artistic precincts of Kathak Kendra, New Delhi, Mangala took training under Kathak maestro, the late Pandit Durga Lal.
