Moving Images and the Women's March partners will be screening a short film, "A Tale Of A Naughty Girl", on March 13th at the Prasad Labs Preview Theatre. The film is directed by Buddadeb Dasgupta, and stars Samata Das, Rituparna Sengupta and Arpan Basar. Women's March is an initiative of Alliance Francaise de Hyderabad, Goethe-Zentrum Hyderabad, the University of Hyderabad, Kalakriti Art Gallery and Moving Images.
The film is set in India during the late 1960s. Rajani, a prostitute, and her daughter Lati both live in a bordello in a little town called Gospaira. Hoping that her daughter will have a better life than hers, and to safeguard her own old age, Rajani decides to find Lati a husband. She doesn't mind if the prospective groom for her daughter is an older man - as long as he is wealthy.
The eligible suitor is a cinema-owner called Paladi, who is an unscrupulous businessman with a penchant for rape scenes. Paladi already has his eye on Lati, but the young girl has very different ideas about her future. Even though such a marriage would mean financial security, Lati feels the price is just too high, and nurtures hopes of going back to school.
Entry to the film is free. Please contact Goethe-Zentrum Hyderabad at 6552-6443 / 2324-1791 for further details.
